I remember being a very green Elder in awe of so many General Authorities in such close proximity. Elder McConkie was performing the sustaining of the General Church Leadership when an apostate interupted him, yelling from the congregation in the Opera House, "When are we going to sustain the local authorities?" The Apostle continued, ignoring the interuption. Once again, the man stood and repeated the question. I remember how odd it was, with all that Priesthood power in attendance, that the Spirit seemed to leave the room for a moment. Elder McConkie paused, streached forth his long arm, pointed at the man said, "You see me after this meeting!" The man seemed to melt back into his seat. Then Elder McConkie began his talk powerfully; "There are 5 basic parts of a pure testimony . . ." The Spirit flooded the room once more and remained unabaited through the remainder of the Conference. I was also amused to see the once bold apostate's face, now barely visable between the shoulders of two of the biggest Elders in the Mission who had taken chairs on either side of him. I believe one was Elder Vanatter. They looked line NFL Linemen. What a fantastic Conference it was! |

LDS QUOTE: |
"You are a great army of returned missionaries. Go forward with new zeal and determination, and through your example shine the light of the gospel in this troubled world. This is the Lord's work in which we are engaged. God lives. Jesus is the Christ. We belong to His Church. This is my witness to you in the name of Jesus Christ, amen."
