| In 1976 Pres Spencer W Kimball and other Gen. Authorities including Bruce R McConkie and T.M. Burton came to Sydney for the 1st Area Conference in Australia. The Conference was originally scheduled for the Sydney Town Hall and other venues but a last minute cancelation at the Opera House allowed all of the Saints to gather together in one location over 2 days. This was the first time many of the members of the church had seen any of the Gen. Authorities. The local members provided a choir and it was a very wonderful opportunity for everyone. Many contacts came from this event. There is picture of all of the missionaries serving at that time standing on the steps of the Sydney Opera House. A copy of the picture is hanging on a wall at the MTC in Provo Utah. |
