Alexander's latest letter to missionaries
(12/99)
At this special time of year we pause in our busy lives to
express to each of you
our love and appreciation for all that you have meant to us in our
lives. This is a
special time of the year. We are so grateful for the life of the
Savior and expecially
for the atonement that he has suffered for us.
This past year has been a busy one, and the new year looks even
better. We are
excited about the events that are coming about in our lives. We will
be leaving home
on the 15th of January to visit family in Sacramento and St. George
for a few days
before we enter the MTC on February 7th. On the 12th we will then
make our way
to Liberty, Missouri where we will spend two years in the service of
the Lord at the
Liberty Historical Site. We feel so blessed to again have the
opportunity to serve the
Lord full time.
With this call necessitates many changes. We have been released from
the temple and
the Lacey WA Stake has already called another Patriarch to serve and
we will be
released from our other church positions soon. It is with mixed
emotions that we go
through with this (Alton loves being a sealer, giving p. blessings,
and teaching the Gospel
Doctrine Class), but we are willing to do what the Lord asks.
We appreciate all who made the reunion so special. It was soooo good
to see you and
share memories, meet your spouses and children. We congratulate you
for having the
cutest little ones around. What a blessing in your lives and a great
responsibility to teach
and train them.
Know that we love you and that you mean a lot to us. It is our hope
and prayer that this
letter finds you well. We invite you to come see us after February 15
of 2000 and before
February 15, 2002 at 'The Jail, Liberty that is!'
Our love and best wishes for a Happy Holiday Season!
Pres & Sis Alexander
Alexanders called on a mission to Liberty Jail!
(9/99)
Dear Elder Hill,
The rumor that you have heard is true. We have been called to be
the
Director of the Liberty Jail Historic Site in Liberty, Missouri. Our
mission
will start in February of 2000. We are excited. We are also very busy
trying
to get ready for the great day. We are trying to sell our home before
we go.
It will be interesting to see what we do when we get released from
our
mission. ( probably go on another one.) Our mission call is for two
years so
that pesents a problem for us in regards to the big reunion in
2000.
We are looking forward to seeing you in a few days. Give our love to
all.
Love
The Alexanders
A letter from President and Sister Alexander
(1/99)
To the Elders and Sisters of the California Riverside
Mission:
Our thoughts and prayers are continually for you. We are always
excited to hear from you and would look forward to your visit if and
when you would get the chance.
We are still very active in the church trying to do our part. Sister
Alexander is still the Ward Relief Society President and I am the
Gospel Doctrine teacher in the ward, the Stake Patriarch, and both of
us work at least two shifts a week in the Seattle Temple. I also work
at the Temple when there is a Spanish session.
We still read the Book of Mormon each day for at least five pages and
we do the same in The Doctrine and Covenants. In as much as the
Gospel Doctrine lessons for the year 1998 have been in the Old
Testament I spend a lot of time in preparation. We will continue our
study in the Bible for the year 1999 in as much as the couse of study
will be in the New Testament.
All in all we keep ourselves very busy. We do find time to visit our
children periodically and always enjoy the growth that we see in them
and our Grand Children.
We have been told by the doctor that we need to do a lot of walking
and therefore I walk at least two hours a day. To give you a idea of
how far I walk each day, I walk at the rate of 3.5 miles per hour. We
don't walk on Sundays however.
We have done some traveling and plan to do a little more of it if we
can find the time to do so.
We want you to know that we love each of you very much and hope the
best for you. Drop us a note if you get the chance.
Love,
President and Sister Alexander
