Supplies For Mission in Riverside
First of all, we should say that the most important list of items for you to bring to the mission field should have been included in your mission call envelope. Pay special attention to that list. It is supplied by the Church and by your mission president. The following tips are the advice of former missionaries. These are our recommendations and in no way represent the official recommendations from the mission or the Church.
Speaking from experience, those of us who have served in the California Riverside Mission recommend you include many short-sleeved white shirts in your wardrobe. The summers are extremely hot especially if you are called to serve on bike in the Palm Desert Stake. Most days during the summer months the temperature is over 100 degrees. You will not be wearing many long sleeved shirts on those days. However, you will want several long sleeve shirts to wear with your suits and on days when it is cool during the winter months.
Also, make sure you bring a few pairs of shorts and t-shirts. Some missionaries think they will wear white shirts and ties every hour of every day. Almost, but not quite. On p-day you will likely be at the church playing basketball or involved in another sport somewhere else. Bring the clothes you will need for recreation.
Don't forget the alarm clock, iron, sheets, blanket, pillow, etc that you will need. If you are hurting for packing space you may wish to wait to purchase an iron, alarm clock, and other miscellaneous items until you get in the mission field. You are not going to South Africa. There will be plenty of stores around you for you to pick up these items.
