Stories: Earthquakes in San Bernardino

When I was in my first area, San Bernardino (Fall of '92), I experienced 2 earthquakes hours apart. I had not experienced anything like this before, so I didn't wake up very easily. On the richter scale, the first one measured 6.9 and the second measured 7.1. They were both were within an hour of San Bernardino, although I don't remember their locations. I was sleeping while the first one was going on and it was a shaker. I didn't wake up until my companion, Elder Pond woke me up. I thought the 6.9 shaker was pretty fun to be in as it didn't do much damage and I saw the house sway back and forth but not much else.
The second one which was 7.1 was a wave and it was scary. I immediately went outside with my companion and while standing in one spot, I was moving at the same time in one direction. I believe both earthquakes didn't last more than a minute but the second one did some damage. I know in L.A. it did extensive damage as a bridge was torn apart and some cars plummeted to the waters or pavement, I can't remember. I believe there was some fatalities. The earthquakes took place in the morning and L.A. was still cleaning up from the destruction. There were some after- shocks and I found that pretty cool.
I have to say this experience I will never forget. |
