Yikes, it's been a while.
Since the mission field:
- Married in 2002 to my wonderful wife, Karen (formerly Jones).
- Our oldest, Emma, was born in 2003.
- Graduated from BYU in philosophy in 2004.
- Opened and ran a small bookstore in Eastern Washington from 2004-2005, and then decided to go back to school for a degree in library science.
- Our second, Jacob, was born in 2006.
- Moved to Oregon, in 2007.
- Our third, Jonah, was born in 2008.
- Graduated with a master's degree in library science from San Jose State University in 2009.
- Moved to Utah in Spring, 2009, first to take up a summer fellowship, then to follow out a job teaching philosophy at Utah Valley University.
- Our fourth, Lydia, was born in 2010.
- Now at the University of New Mexico this Fall doing graduate work in philosophy.
Along the way:
- Three years of teaching early morning seminary, and a good deal of released-time seminary substitute teaching.
- A dozen conference presentations, two in philosophy, the rest in Mormon studies.
- A series of articles published, most recently a piece on Nephi and Laban in Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought.
- A book manuscript in the process of publication: An Other Testament: On Typology, a book on the Book of Mormon.
- A member of the executive board of the Mormon Theology Seminar.
- A summer fellowship in 2009, studying Parley and Orson Pratt under Terryl Givens, under the direction of Richard Bushman.
- Co-founder of Salt Press, a newly launched publishing company dedicated to producing studies of Mormon scripture. |
