| Comments: Letter from Jake December 5, 2011 excerpt: Hey Everyone! I went to Yaguate with the District Leader´s companion. So I had to go to their area. It´s a lot bigger than Najayo. Like it´s almost a city. More like a smaller city. If San Cristobal is Tacoma, then Yaguate is like Chehalis and Najayo is like Mossyrock. Oh and their house is the second worse house in the mission. Like rated by the mission...aries and everything. It´s pretty bad. IT´s really small and cramped and they only have water once a week. We were walking home from our last lesson and it was really dark and we were far away and Elder Worton (the elder I exchanged with) said that huge tarantulas are on the road and they´ll run at you and crawl up your pant leg if you arn´t careful. So I was freaked out the rest of the way home. Then we were passing by a Haitian village and we heard 3 gun shots and he said someone just got shot. He said that if they kill animals they use a machete because ammunition is too precious here so 3 shots means someone got shot. Another day we went and had lunch at a member´s house. It was really good. We had rice and spaghetti and fried bananas and avocado. And they are really wealthy. Their house is a lot nicer than a lot of houses in the States. And they have hot water which is a huge luxury here. But then we went and taught a few lessons. Then we say a guy selling sugarcane, so I got some. It was alright. It was like chewing soft wood and it had sugar water you suck out and then spit the woody part out. | |
