La Romana prison 19 Mar 2001
While serving in Hato Mayor, I went on a split with one of the zone leaders one Friday morning. While driving through the cane fields on our way to La Romana, an old man ran into the street and ran into the car that I was driving. I thought I killed him! We took him to a free clinic where he told the police officer that I had run over him. The short of it is that they let the zone leader go home and I was put in jail that day.... then later sentenced to prison. That experience taught me the power of prayer, priesthood and the administering of angels. If it weren't for that power, I would have had a very bad stay in that prison cell. At first I thought that some of the cell "gangs" were going to try their luck with the white boy gringo.... however, after saying a prayer and seeing the look on their faces as they approached me, I knew that there was someone there guarding me! I had a chance to teach a couple of the discussions while in there. I don't know if anything happened because of it but at least I tried. The other elders finally got me out before I had to spend the night. All in all it was both a scary and one of the most spiritual experiences that I had on my mission.
