Years of Service

In 1951 William Glyn Hillman and his wife, Ceinwen, met the missionaries in the Merthyr area and were baptised the following year. Now aged 85 and 92, respectively, they can look back on the many years of service to the Church and to Wales. Brother Hillman was a chief surveyor in a colliery and also worked as a building and civil engineer before concluding his working life as a lecturer in colleges in Wales.

The Hillmans have three daughters, one of whom is still living in Blackwood. It was there Brother Hillman first organised, under priesthood direction, a branch of the Church in 1955 and served as branch president twice. He went on to become the first Welsh district president in Wales.

Sister Hillman was at his side working and supporting him. In 1960 the British Singing Mothers were formed, and she took part in the choir when they toured Britain for a few months. She served as district Relief Society president and accompanied her husband when he fulfilled speaking assignments at various branch sacrament meetings. Both served a temple mission from 1972-73, and Brother Hillman has served as patriarch for many years. - Elena Neale, Swansea Second Ward, Merthyr Tydfil Stake
