The City of Manhattan Beach, CA is going to be the host city for over 80 Hungarians who are coming to represent Hungary in the Special Olympics. The city will be hosting the athletes on Wednesday and Thursday July 22nd and 23rd. If anyone is interested in volunteering, I am sure the host committee would love to have you. I have been told that the coaches all speak some English, but the athletes (more than 70 people) do not. Please contact me if you are in the greater LA area and would like to volunteer. You would be required to attend a Sensitivity Training Program that is about an hour long. Thanks so much.

On behalf of the Budapest Hungary Stake Presidency, I would like to personally encourage all Hungarian-speaking people both inside and outside of Hungary to subscribe to the Hungarian Liahona and have it sent to their home address. If they are able, everyone is encouraged to order not only for themselves but for others as well, sending the magazine to the home of those for whom they buy it.
If 2000 subscriptions are made before the end of February, the Hungarian Liahona will be issued monthly! The Hungarian language will also be moved up a notch in translation priority! This will bring great blessings to the saints in Hungary and will be instrumental in moving the church forward!
Please tell everyone about this! We don't have much time.
Warm regards,
Hungary Budapest Stake Presidency

Hello - I served in the Paris, France mission, and was friends with the Kremer family. Last I heard they had moved back to Budapest, but I had no way to reach them. If anyone has information on the family I would really appreciate an update. Karoly Kremer was the father, and 2 of their children were named Gabor and Catherine....

Szervusztok! I am so excited to share an opportunity to do Hungarian genealogy. I've just started indexing names on Family Search at indexing.familysearch.org. One of the projects that needs help is a Hungarian project. I just finished a batch of birth records for villages near Nyiregyhaza, and it wasn't as hard as I thought, especially with google translator from Hungarian to English. It was so meaningful to actually use Hungarian!
Also, I found the Hungary church website at jezuskrisztusegyhaza.hu. God bless!

Does anyone know anyway to contact Sis Spillet (94-96)? We lost touch when we both moved at the same time several years ago.
Thanks!

Directions (from President Wilde)
Once one is in Provo, the easiest way to get to the chapel is to go north or south on 900 East and look for the intersection where the BYU Creamery is. If one is on campus, take the road just north of the law school. At the semaphore (I had to look this word up, it means traffic light) where the Creamery is, go east on Birch Lane, and after about 100 meters Birch will incline southward, but will still be Birch. Proceeding south on Birch you will pass Ash and Aspen Avenues, stay on Birch. Continuing south and to your right you will see a Provo City Park. Stay on Birch until you come to Apple. On Apple turn east. Very shortly after you get on Apple you will see a church to the right, set back from Apple, but very visible. That is the place we will meet. The main entrance and parking lot are on the west side of the building. This looks way more complicated than it is. An easy way to remember is that you get on Ninth East, turn east on Birch (looking for the Birch Church) and on Apple you turn east (heading for the Apple Chapel). The chapel is probably about a quarter to half a mile from the Ninth East Creamery semaphore.

I have been looking for the old discussion books. The church distribution center just stopped selling them. If ANYONE is willing to part with them, even for 2 years or help me make copies, I would be so appreciative. I wish to use them to give me a better grasp on the lessons to study with PMG!!!

Szervusztok mindenkinek! I'm not sure that is correct Hungarian, I'm so rusty. I have been thinking about Hungary so much lately, even though it has been over 12 years since I returned from my mission. The impressions and memories on my mind are engraved forever. I can't help but wonder about the current and future work to be done there. It is wonderful to see the pictures of the new chapels (I love the new Debrecen chapel), and the new stake in Hungary. The Gospel is everything in this life, and the Hungarian people are as precious in the sight of God as ever. I truly wonder, is there more we can do to help?
Thank you to everyone I was able to get to know on my mission (1995-1997). I would like to know how Elder Val Sagers (1997) from Wellsville (Logan area) is doing. If anyone has info, I would appreciate it. Also, if anyone knows how the work is going in Hungary, I love to see them posted on this website.
God bless from sunny SE Arizona!

If any of you know the Csoti family from Kispest, the mom is going to spend about a month in Salt Lake from mid September 2009 to October. I believe she has a place to stay, but she could use some help getting around, or at least being shown how to use the bus system. Andi (her daughter) says she is pretty independent, but she could just use some help getting around at first.
If you can help or want to meet with her email me at johnny.mrykalo@us.army.mil

Szabo Tamás is hoping to contact Elder Sanders who served and taught him in 1996. My son is now serving in his ward and he wrotet he following to me:
I have a question mom. I need you to work your magic and see if you can find an elder that served in 1996 by the name of Sanders. One of the people he began teaching, Szabo Tamás, is now a strong member and Sanders just doesnt know that. Tamás was wondering if theres a way to get a hold of him-- I told him that if there were, it would be my mom.
If you know Elder Sanders will you let him know to get in touch with me?
Sincerely,

Hey all...sorry to post twice. Here is a copy of the Teryn's Obituary
Teryn Brant Henrie , age 33, died accidently on June 29, 2008, near his home in Plainfield, New Jersey, as he was kayaking and snorkeling at night.
He was born in Roosevelt, July 3, 1974, the son of Rouel and Beverly Henrie of Neola. Teryn graduated from Union High School in 1992. The summer following graduation, he went on tour with the Olie Anderson Daredevils and saw a lot of new places. He then joined the Navy for two years and saw a lot of places around the world traveling in an Aircraft Carrier, the USS Independence. After returning from the Navy, he went on a mission to the Hungary, Budapest Mission.
He married Xenia Bogalrk Lazar on November 7, 1997, in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on November 25, 1998.
Teryn loved life and was a very fun-loving guy. In his short lifetime, he tried to experience all kinds of new things. He went skiing in the Alps, golfed in Dubai in the Middle East, loved riding mountain bikes, loved both snow and wake boarding, kayaking and snorkeling at night locally in New Jersey. He loved golfing with his friends, dad and brothers when he had a rare chance to do so. Friends said he was a very good golfer. Teryn was so very generous. He did whatever he could for people when he was aware they needed help.
He and Xenia have a four year old daughter, Alexis. She was the "Light of His Life!!"
He was active in the their LDS ward in New Jersey, and taught Sunday School to a class of youth, served in both his ward and stake Young Men’s organization, and served as a temple worker in the Manhattan Temple.
Teryn worked for EMC, a computer software company, in Manhattan, NY, and traveled quite a lot for work.
He has many friends, old and new, and loved every one. He will be sorely missed by all of his friends and family.
Teryn is survived by his wife, Xenia, daughter, Alexis; parents, Rouel and Bev Henrie, Neola; Shane (Mindy), N. Ogden; Mykel (Camille), Farr West, UT; Bret (Yarnell), Neola; Brandon, Salt Lake City; Tyrone (Emily), Orem; and sister, Danielle, serving in the Korean Daejeon Mission; returning August 22, 2008; and fourteen nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2008, at the Neola LDS Chapel. Friends and family may call at the Hullinger Mortuary on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and from 10-10:45 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Interment will be in the Hayden Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, an education account for Alexis has been set up. The family appreciates any level of donation. To donate, please make you checks out to "UESP". Please include the following on your check: "Beneficiary: Alexis Henrie, account number 200813435."

I have a native Hungarian author writing a book and is visiting the U.S. She is staying in Draper, UT. She doesn't speak any English and I am looking for someone who wants a job for about 3 weeks. This person would need to drive her around (must provide own transportation but will be reimbursed for fuel), speak to her in hungarian, translate a little bit, do a small amount of assistant work, etc. The job would be for 4-5 hours a day for three weeks, starting immediately. Pays $15.00/hour. Please contact Matt at matthewkober@gmail.com.

Hey Y'all,
I have a huge favor to ask. I am currently a student at Emory University pursuing my MBA. I am in the thick of an internship search for consulting. I have made a contact at A.T. Kearney who is doing work in Eastern Europe and has asked me for some information about Hungary. If anyone has some good insight for the following questions will you please contact me? Thanks!
- What are the top 3 universities?
- What are the typical languages that university students are fluent in?
- Do you think Western Europe looks down on Hungary to a degree that they would refuse to do business with them?
Again, thank you for your time and insights.

Hi all --
I received a random message from a guy in NYC who knows a 112-year-old Hungarian woman who lives in Norwalk CT. Her son recently passed away and there is nobody left in the family who can really communicate with her. She is lonely, and I'm sure she has some amazing stories to tell. If anyone is in the area and willing to go visit this woman for a chat, let me know and I'll connect you with the family.
Frankly, I'd like to ask her how on earth she lived to 112 considering how much szalona and tej fol she's probably eaten! That alone would be worth the trip :-)
Cheers,
Kimber

I was just catching up on this website and saw that back in 2003 Vaczy Karoly asked if anyone knew my contact information. If anyone knows how to get a hold of him now, please let me know. I tried his phone number and email posted on this website and they didn't work. I updated my profile so all my contact information is current. Thanks.

Hi, this is Kevin Brady. I served a mission in Hungary from 2003-2005. I'm currently applying for a Fulbright Scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year. This scholarship would bring me to Hungary as a student. However, to apply, I need a university affiliation. This means I need a letter of recommendation from someone at a Hungarian university. Does anyone know of any church members or other individuals who are on the faculty or staff of any of the following universities (or any other Hungarian university)? These universities are University of Szeged, University of Debrecen, University of Pécs, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Balassi Bálint Institute, International House, or Interclub. I would prefer a school in Budapest, but contact information for anyone at any university would be great. If you know of anyone or know how to get in contact with anyone, please email me: kevinleebrady@hotmail.com. Thanks.
