President Stan Taylor entered the Boise Idaho mission July 1998, along with his wife, Sister Vickie Taylor, and their 24 year old son, John. President Taylor is on a temporary leave of absence from Brigham Young University, where he has worked for nearly 30 years. He is currently a Professor in the Political Science department, and has served as Chairman of that department.

President Taylor comes from a background of high political involvement. He has worked as an Executive Assistant to US Congressman Gunn Mckay, as well as a staff member working with US Senator Jake Garn on the United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. President Taylor has even toyed with political office, having run for State Senator in the 1970's. President Taylor founded Brigham Young University's prestigious David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies, and served as the director of that center for 7 years.

President and Sister Taylor have traveled widely, both with and without their family. The Taylor's took the inaugural group of Brigham Young students to London for BYU's first London Semester Abroad. They have since returned as the Director's for two additional 6-months stays in London. The Taylors spent 6 months in Kent, England, with President Taylor working as a Visiting Fellow in the Rutherford College at University of Kent. Most recently, the Taylors spent 6 months in Dunedin, New Zealand, where President Taylor worked as Visiting Fulbright Lecturer at the University of Otago. Their son, John, accompanied them on these trips and has learned to love living abroad. John served a mission as a clerk in the mail room at the MTC in Provo, and now supports the Taylor's by processing the mail for the entire Idaho Boise Mission.

Sister Taylor is a graduate of Brigham Young University, where she was elected to the student body presidency. Sister Taylor has served as Stake and Ward Relief Society President, and has been the driving force behind many Stake and Ward Choirs and choral performances. She performed for 10 years with Provo's esteemed Ralph Woodward Choral, and was a founding board member of Provoce, Provo's newest choral group. Sister Taylor's numerous talents include design and creation of stained glass, a vast knowledge of the arts and literature, and (as many missionaries in Idaho will attest) a thorough working knowledge of medicine and health care. She carries with her a distinguished legacy, as a direct descendant of Willard Richards and Stephen L. Richards, counselor to President David O. Mckay. Sister Taylor's father, Lynn Richards, served on the General Sunday School Board for years, and still works at his own law firm in Salt Lake City at the age of 98.

President Taylor served an honorable mission in the US Central States Mission (Chicago.) He took his bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University, and his Masters and PhD from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in Boston, Mass. His emphasis has always been on US Foreign Policy, with a specialty in US / Soviet relations. President Taylor studied Russian in college, and also has a working knowledge of both French and Spanish. He is a gifted trumpet player, and has played for years in the Utah Valley Orchestra. He is known for his thrilling performance of "The Swan," by Camille Saint-Saens. President Taylor has published over two dozen scholarly works, has been highly sought after as a keynote speaker at BYU devotionals, forums, and elsewhere, and has received numerous awards from both faculty and students at BYU as Professor of the Year.

President and Sister Taylor have 5 children and 13 grandchildren, spread evenly between Portland, Oregon, and Provo, Utah. Their sons, daughters, and in-laws, have served missions in Virginia, Japan, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, and South Africa. Their children developed a love for living abroad early in life and have lived in England, China, Japan, and Israel, with their own families.

The Taylors love being in Boise, working with the great missionaries there in furthering our Heavenly Father's work. We, their family, know you'll love them as much as we do. We know you'll come to appreciate the sweet spirit of love President Taylor brings with him for each missionary with whom he works. The Taylors believe their role to be helping each missionary find the eternal rewards that come from serving our Father with honor and integrity.

LDS QUOTE:
"The Lord has given no greater charge to His people than sharing the gospel with our Heavenly Father’s children. Missionaries take people out of the darkness of the world and lead them to the safety and light of the gospel of Jesus Christ. To find and teach and baptize and confirm someone who has never paid much attention to God or to Christ and His great atoning sacrifice is one of the greatest services a priesthood holder can provide."
-M. Russell Ballard
