Sister Marie Wirkus passed away last week. She was the first Iowa Des Moines Mission Presidents wife. I had the wonderful opportunity of serving with her and her husband in the office for ten months. A very gracious, smart, tough woman. She always supported her mission president husband, even when she disagreed with him. I once saw her break up a fight, a real fight, with just one sentence. She was a great woman. I think of her often. My daughter's middle name is Marie. I will always remember Sister Marie Wirkus.
