Comments:
I recently retired after 20 years active duty in the US Navy. I share that with you because it was my love of Italy and the Italian language that led me to pursue a career in the Navy as a linguist. Though the Navy didn't need Italian linguists they did train me in Korean, Russian and Serbian. It was definately not "just a job but a really great adventure". Best of all it afforded me the chance to fulfill my two dreams of returning to Italy and getting to fly. I got to travel to all sorts of exotic places (Bahrain, Singapore, The Phillipine Is., Hong Kong, Isreal, Turkey, Greece, France and Germany) but best of all I got to visit Trieste, Venezia, Verona, Roma, Napoli, and live for three weeks in Ancona serving with an Italian Navy command. It was so FANTASTIC to be able to go back and immerse myself in the Italian culture, cuisine and landscape!!! It was really neat because even after all this time I was still able to communicate fluently in Italian which just made the whole experience that much more incredible. I also got to fly as an aircrewman on the Navy EP-3E shore-based reconnaissance aircraft and the ES-3A carrier-based reconnaissance aircraft. I never imagined I'd ever get the chance to experience real carrier aviation but I guess I was just in the right place at the right time. Working on the flightdeck of an aircraft carrier is definately one of the most exciting and challenging things I've ever done and being shot off the catapult, flying a mission and then landing again on the flightdeck is the most thrilling experience in the world!!!
Anyway, I am married (25 years this past December). I have a 19 year old son and a 10 year old daughter. Both were/are homeschooled by my wife. (The schools here leave a lot to be desired.) We love living in Maryland between Baltimore and D.C because of all the lush green forests and the historic Revolutionary War and Civil War battlefields in the area.
Love to hear from any of you that might remember me even if we weren't actually companions.
