| PRESIDENT GORDON B. HINCKLEY - IF YOU LIVE FAITHFULLY, THERE WILL BE A TEMPLE IN SINGAPORE
Testimony of good friend of ldsislove - Nishan A. Atulugamage of Sri Lanka
It was my 08 month of 02 years missionary service in the Singapore mission, the living prophet president Gordon B. Hinckley visited the saints in Singapore to give a promise, the promise was not known until he address the saints, president Hinckley was accompanied by his lovely wife Sister Hinckley, president Boyd K. Packer and his dear wife and few other leaders from the Church headquarters and area authority.
We as missionaries were too excited about this once in life time historical event which is going to take place, some of my American missionary companions were privilege to be witness although they are from USA but knew that they might not actually see President Hinckley even in States. This is true there are thousands of Americans have not seen president Hinckley in their naked eye.
We were given pamphlet, booklets and other materials to share this great news with the people we come in contact, it was fun to give those information out. We are boasting what was going to be happened and warning people to come and listen to a prophet of almighty in our day. “A modern day prophet”
Some are very much enthusiast to come and see while many other people dump the pamphlets. Very sad seeing people rejecting this life time opportunity. But I knew that it’s important to me personally to be witnessed and to be there to listen to him. The main reason was why I was too interested and felt it’s important because I never knew that he claiming to be a true prophet, although I told many people we have a living prophet today and bore testimony; but within me I wasn’t sure whether I am saying this with a real testimony. It was an important opportunity for me to know if he is a real prophet of God. And I was expecting a miracle.
Finally the day came, which is on January 2000, we gathered to the biggest stadium in Singapore, there were nearly 2,500 people, with combination of active, inactive members and investigators from all over the wards.
Since this a big gathering, you can imagine the noise that can create in an indoor stadium, very loud and echoing. People were shouting, laughing, cheering and chatting; while all this happening, no one knew when the prophet is scheduled to come. On an odd time I felt some kind of a strange feeling, similar to cool breeze blowing in gently throughout the stadium, and so other people felt and suddenly it was way too quite, silent and still stand. Couldn’t imagine what was going to be happened.
In few seconds we saw president Hinckley and his associates walking on to the stage from the backstage. It was the spirit touches us with the message of his arrival to make us reverence, quite and to astonish us with the feeling of affectionate.
Great feeling to be experienced by any one in the stadium, my skin gets chilled every time I speak about it, and I have not skip an opportunity to share this testimony when some one is speaking, or teaching about president Hinckley as a prophet.
From that day onward, I knew he is chosen by God to lead us, to guide us. I am grateful for his dedication to church affairs. On that day I wanted to walk on to the stage and shake his hand, but we were asked not weary him any more because he was coming from visiting many countries. I wanted to go and asked him to heal one of my eyes suffering from Macular degeneration. I knew that he can heal it and felt very strongly I must go to him, but we had to listen to the church leaders not troubling him.
To this day, I know what I experience is real, and he is a true prophet of God, I know that with my whole heart and will this testimony give me enough strength to stand against any evil spoke of him or the church by other faith, denominations and sects. in the name of Lord Jesus Christ.
