• The OOCM has five Stakes with many wards and branches serving the area including a section of Texas. There are 8 Spanish speaking areas and about 120 missionaries at one time throughout the mission.
• History of Oklahoma: Most Oklahomans' are proud to be from Oklahoma. College and high school sports, Native American history/ culture and pioneer heritage are important to folks from this region.
• Oklahoma's weather: Yes, the OOCM is in the middle of "Tornado Alley". An average 54 tornadoes strike the state per year—one of the highest rates in the world. But don't worry, with a little bit of knowledge, preparedness, and faith you'll be fine. Read the weather page on this site for safety guidelines.
• Missionary Clothing Needs: You will receive a packet prior to your service indicating the clothing you'll need. But you need to know that it gets quite humid in Oklahoma so you'll need clothing that can be cool in the summer. It also gets very cold as well. The wind alone is so bitter it goes right through your coat. If need be, you'll have the opportunity to supplement your wardrobe once you get out in the field.
