I joined the Army about a year after leaving the mission and was sent to language school to learn Persian/Farsi and later to the Army Interrogation School. While at language school I met my wife, Joana, who was also training to become a Farsi linguist, but for the Navy. We were married in February of 1999 and got a quick start on our family. Kiera was born in Dec '99 while we were in Texas for Joana's training. Soon after we moved to Ft. Gordon, GA where Joana was stationed for the remainder of her time on Active Duty in the Navy. Our son Ivan was born there in August of '01. As a Reservist in the Army, I was able to stay home with the kids during the day or night while Joana worked, and go to school during the evenings. I also had the opportunity to work in Texas, Guatemala, and El Salvador for the Army as a translator in their humanitarian efforts. In 2003 I was sent to Iraq to support the first wave of Iraqi Freedom. My youngest son, Ewan, was born while I was away in June of '03. While I was gone, Joana also got released from Active Duty in the Navy and moved to Sierra Vista, AZ, her hometown. Before leaving for Iraq I was accepted to the Border Patrol Academy, and expected to return to that job. During that time, however, the Border Patrol switched from being Dept. of Justice to Dept. of Homeland Security, and when I returned from my 16 month deployment, the academy was closed as they were making the changes. During that time I submitted my resume to various Govt. Contract companies and was quickly offered a contract to teach Interrogation at Ft. Huachuca, which is located in Sierra Vista, where I was already living. I accepted that contract, and have since been teaching Interrogation to all branches of the military.
