Just to catch up. I have been involved with Eagle-Condor Humanitarian (www.eagle-condor.org) for about 4 years now. We do a variety of work in Peru... specifically Chiclayo, Trujillo, Piura and Cuzco. The foundation is divided into two parts, Humanitarian and Micro-Enterprise. We focus the majority of our Humanitarian efforts in Southern Peru around the city of Cuzco. In northern Peru we focus on Micro-Enterprise. We have offices in Chiclayo, Trujillo and Piura where we teach business skills and marketing strategies. Individuals enrolled in these classes then present the foundation with a business plan they have put together. Once the foundation approves that plan, that individual is then given a loan to start their own business. As that loan is re-paid, it is then re-distributed to others who have completed our classes and are awaiting loans. This program has been a huge success with a re-payment rate of 97% and over 1,000 jobs created so far. Working with this foundation has been super rewarding and has been an awesome opportunity to give back. I am excited to be working with (Elder) Greg Summerhays who joined me on the Board of Directors in January. I am also really excited to be returning to Peru with my wife in August of this year. We will be leading a Youth Humanitarian Expedition to Cuzco and Trujillo. Should be good times!
Home life is great! I have been married for almost 6 years now to my lovely wife Brooke. Last year we had our first child, a little boy we named Luke. He is the cutest little boy ever and we are loving having a kid. I was released as Young Men's President in our ward after about 3 years and was recently called to serve as 1st councilor in the Stake Young Men's Presidency. My new calling feels like a vacation when compared to my last calling so I am loving the new found freedom. Our little boy is keeping us busy but we would not have it any other way. |
