NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Philippines - A Filipino missionary was killed while an
American national and a Filipino companion were injured in a freak road
accident in Valladolid town in Negros Occidental Tuesday.
Online news site Visayan Daily Star (www.visayandailystar.com) on Thursday
cited belated reports indicating the accident occurred on the highway of
Bagumbayan village in Valladolid town.
Killed was Eugene Fontanos, 23, after he was hit by a Toyota Innova van.
Fontanos succumbed to severe head injuries, according to Valladolid police
chief Sr. Insp. Alexander Muñoz.
Injured were American missionary Jared Michael Smith and Rolando Terante,
who sustained injuries in different parts of the bodies.
Smith and Terante are being treated in a Bacolod City hospital, while Dasal
is now detained at the Valladolid police station jail.
Henry Dasal, the driver of the Toyota Innova, was on his way to San
Enrique, when he bumped the victims who were walking towards a Mormon
Church at Purok Pigeon, Brgy. Bagumbayan, Valladolid.
Dasal faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide. -
