Comments: After spending 3 1/2 months in the MTC and 4 months in NYC - in the Brooklyn spanish speaking mission. I was able to use my Portuguese in Brooklyn we had a Portuguese family in our branch. I finally made it to Portugal in July 1979. My original call was to Brasil Sao Paulo Sul, then it was changed to Brasil Rio DeJanerio in New York but visa problems kept our group from going to Brasil. I have 4 letters from Pres. Spencer W. Kimball one for each Mission I was called to, even though I didn't serve in two of them. I served in Portugal when there was only one mission. In August 1979 Elder Rodrigues and I entered the city of Lagos as the first two missionaries in the city. It was a great experience for both of us. There was one LDS family (Battaglias) in the city. It took a few months to get everything established but after that the work progressed very well. Now I hear the work is going strong in Lagos, it's great to see the work progress. I would like to go back someday and see the country.
