Comments: I served in the Rome Italy Mission under President Pasta then in the Podova Mission under President Conforte. I was then transferred to the Austria Vienna East Mission – Romania under President (Elder) Neuenschwander and finished my mission in the Hungary Budapest Mission – Romania under President Wilde. I guess Mission Presidents kept kicking me out of their missions.
President Conforte (Padova, Italy Mission) called me in Ravenna, Italy to tell me I had been transferred to Bucharest, Romania. At first I thought it was a region of Italy, and then as President Conforte explained, I wished I had paid more attention in Geography class. I was filled with mixed emotions about bringing the gospel to a former repressed country and leaving Italy whose people I loved.
This is how I began a journey with Elders Osborne, Jessop and our token non Italian speaking missionary Peterson. We had a lot of help getting our feet under us from Humanitarian Missionaries, the Prices, Davies, Fifes and the lovely Sisters Bruse and Cutler.
We found a teacher to teach us Romanian and had classes 3 hour a day for 3 months.
I loved Romania and its people. It was a great and humbling experience to introduce the gospel and priesthood to a people who have had a troubled past. |
