I took the opportunity to attend Elder Schiess' funeral. It was a sad occasion for me to attend such an event. I have many happy memories of serving with Elder Schiess. Elder Schiess did wonderful things after he left the mission field. His family had a very good understanding of the gospel. I was most impress with his children. His son, Nathan, stood beside his mother the whole time during the viewing. He had his arm around her giving her comfort. He spoke for just a few minutes toward the end of the service. He told the congregation "Friday, my hero died." I cannot think of a greater compliment than to have your 15 year old son says such a thing. The entire Stake Center was full. I could tell a lot of his football players where there giving the family support. He will be greatly missed. For all those who knew Gary, his brother Kevin summed it all up. "He did more things in his short 41 years than most people in 80 years."
