October 2005

Lately I have reminisced often about my mission. From the perspective of 27 years, even the most difficult experiences have taken on a warm glow in my memory. In many ways, they truly were the “best two years.” One of my regrets is that I did not make enough effort to stay connected to my comps, converts and other friends from those two years. Gradually, I've been trying to reconnect, so I'm really pleased that this site has come along to facilitate that.

I met and married my eternal companion while we were both attending BYU. Karen, a convert, grew up in Connecticut and is the only member in her family. After graduation we lived in CA. Eventually I went back for an MBA and then took a position in Kansas. In 2000, I joined Intel, at a site in Riverton. It's been great to be “home.” Though I grew up in Southern CA, most of my family is in Utah.

We have five children: Joshua (23); Katherine (19); Emily (16); Elisabeth (11); and Rachel (8). Joshua served in the Boston mission and married a year ago. (Photo is from his wedding.) He is planning on law school. Fortunately, he was on his mission when his Marine Corps Reserve unit was deployed to Iraq, so he managed to miss that experience. Since our only son has been out of our home now for 5 years, I fondly refer to it as the “house of estrogen!”

Emily, our would-be musical theater star, was selected as “Miss Lehi’s Outstanding Teen” and will be competing for the title of “Miss Utah’s Outstanding Teen” on Oct. 15th.

I’m serving on my stake’s high council. It's among the fastest growing stakes in the church. In 4 years we've been in 3 different wards and met in 5 buildings. The stake has split once, and another split can’t be more than 18 months down the road.

The recent reunion was wonderful! After attending, several times now I find myself humming or singing to myself... "Que tous les fils de Dieu, qui ...." And, of course, I'm singing it "too fast."
