Billings | Toby Len Bohnet | Thomas Randy Hansen | Mitch C Hill | Joseph Milne | Your Occupation: UNIX systems administrator | Spouse: Dixie | Comments: After the mission, I returned to the University of Utah and received a BS in CS in 1985. My first full-time job was at AT&T Bell Labs in Columbus, Ohio, where I remained for 8.5 years.
My wife (also an RM) and I were married in the SL Temple in 1987. We have three wonderful children: Elizabeth (1988), Andrew (1992) and Kimberlee (1994). Since 1994 we have lived in Hillsboro, OR (a suburb of Portland) where I work for Intel Corporation. My previous update in '06 said that I'd likely be leaving Intel but that turned out not to be true and I'm still there.
I spent a number of years serving as a ward financial clerk and stake auditor - my favorite callings by far. In Sep '99, I accepted the call of 2nd counselor in the bishopric. Starting in Nov '01, I first became aware of what I considered to be serious issues in the foundational claims of the church and therefore began an extended period of intense study. As a result, in Sep '02 I resigned all callings and now consider myself a deist, a la Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Payne.
In Feb '06 I posted a longer version of my life-story at the Recovery from Mormonism website (www.exmormon.org/bboards.htm - the "Biography" board) but I no longer find it there and it appears my account on that website has been set to "inactive". How weird is that? I'm inactive in both the Mormon and Exmormon worlds! :-)
As of 2012, the eldest is about to graduate from BYU, the middle child is finishing his first year there and has just received his mission call to Las Vegas, and the youngest is determined to follow them there. I've obviously done nothing to disuade my beloved family from remaining involved w/ the church. I am likewise no closer to rethinking my 2002 decision. |
