Funeral services for PFC Walter were held Monday, March 5, in the
Fresno California East Stake Center, conducted by stake President John E.
Barrus. Rowan, the son of Bryan and Adele Walter, grew up in the Peachwood
Ward, Fresno California North Stake. His parents moved to the Clovis 3rd
Ward of the East Stake while he was on his mission.
Rowan and two other Army medics were responding to an earlier attack
when they were killed as an improvised explosive device detonated near
their military vehicle.
He is survived by his wife, Priscilla Lindsey Walter, whom he married
in December 2005 in the San Diego California Temple; his parents; brother,
Rome; and sisters Hailey Cohen and Hanni White.
An active member of the Church, Rowan attended early morning seminary
while a student at Buchanan High School. He served in the Switzerland
Geneva Mission beginning in February 2001.
After returning from his mission in 2003, Brother Walter worked at
the Fresno Surgery Center. He was allowed to observe surgeries, which
further developed his interest in the medical field.
He attended Utah Valley State College in Orem, Utah, for about a year
before moving to the Los Angeles area. He met his future wife while
attending Church in Southern California.
He joined the Army as a medic in the summer of 2005, attending boot
camp at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. After boot camp he went to San Antonio,
Texas, for his medic training. He was stationed at Fort Carson, Colo., at
the time of his deployment
