"Elder Brockbank" 24 Aug 2005
I was transfered from St. Etienne to Lausanne on April 1, 1982. I was leaving Elder Leon Winter, and going to Paul Brockbank. Well, Elder Winter and Brockbank came out together so Elder Winter was able to tell me a little about Elder Brockbank. I arrived in Lausanne and was greeted by the whole district at the gare, and was introduced to "Elder Brockbank". We spent the whole day getting my things situated in the apartment, and working. It soon became apparent that my new "companion" was not too bright. He had a very hard time even remembering who his old companions were, where he had served previous, and he couldn't even remember which High School he went to in Salt Lake City! He was just plain dumb! Well, we were scheduled to meet Elder Slawson and DeYoung that night for whatever reason, so we did so. That's when the April Fools joke was sprung - I had been with Elder DeYoung all day! I didn't even clue-in on the date, and just kept on thinking how clueless "Elder Brockbank" was. Elder DeYoung had known that Elder Winter knew a little about Elder Brockbank and figured I knew a little about him and didn't want to give it away by giving me a wrong answer. Whew! Both Elder Brockbank and DeYoung figured to be very competent and fun-loving missionaries. I had a great time in Lausanne.
