| Comments: 5 months on Taha'a with Martin Conover, another year there with Glen Pierson; Papeete/Papenoo with William Hunn and Huahine with Lynn Hutchings; completed a degree in English from the University of Utah, began publc school teaching; married and went back for an MFA in theatre and resumed teaching; sponsored a Hmong family of refugees and learned enough of their language to impress the adult school and started teaching ESL to adults, summers, nights, and eventually teenagers in high school, which was like dying and going to teachers' heaven; retired after 30 years which also included teaching drama and reading; have seven wonderful kids, 5 boys 2 girls; have never lost my love of the Tahitian language and himene ruau and himene tarava; did a little translating for General Conference, which I loved, but the simultaneous auvaharaa scared me half to death; have two darling & brilliant grandchildren ( 18 month old girl and 3 month old boy); 3 weeks in Tahiti with whole family in 1998 was a dream come true. | |
