January 20, 2010 - My youngest son Chandler was called to the Taichung Mission (which includes all of our former Kaoshiung Mission). Update February 28, 2010 - my son has been re-assigned to Canada Toronto West, Mandarin speaking. Taiwan is still a bike mission and my son can't ride a bike very well. In 2006 Chandler and I were swimming in a local lake and he was hit by a boat. The prop hit him in the pelvis, severing his femural artery and his leg at the hip. Many miracles later, he has recovered well and is making the best of his life. The accident had a profound positive effect on my family in spite of the difficult recovery for him and for my daughter who drove the boat.
In 2007 President Baker lived and worked in Bellevue, WA for six months (since moved to Lindon, UT). We worked in the same building and had a few chances to get together. He is still the great man we all know and love! During my exit interview before leaving Taiwan, he casually suggested I should meet a Susan Hamilton. He had been her branch president in Hong Kong a few years earlier and he thought we would have a few things in common. We just happened to be in the same accounting class at BYU seven months later and married 18 months thereafter. For his "suggestion", I'll be eternally grateful.
