My oldest son, Jordan, is 20 and finishing up at Snow College in Ephraim, Utah and will be studying film at the University of Utah in the fall. My daughter, Larissa, is a junior at Juab High School in Nephi, Utah. My second son, William, is two years old and my youngest son, Jonathan, is seven months. My wife, Becca, is a returned missionary from the Milwaukee, Wisconson mission. She has a BS in Humanities from BYU and is an excellent singer.
I teach media design courses at Mountainland Applied Technology College in Orem. Most of my students are high school juniors and seniors along with a few adults. I've taught there for over eight years. Previously I taught computer and science courses at several high schools in Utah and California, including chemistry, astronomy, and earth systems. I received a teaching credential from San Jose State University in 1990. I earned a Masters Degree in Organizational Behavior from BYU in 1986.
I've done some fun things as a science and technology teacher, including working as an Educator Facilitator for NASA's Explorer Schools program at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory for three years (2002 through 2004). My students participated in NASA as a Mars Exploration Student Data Team in 2003-2004, where we got to use actual Mars probe data to predict weather events on Mars. Since then we've completed a two hour documentary that aired several times on Salt Lake's PBS station, KUED. It's called "AM to FM: Three Decades of Radio in Utah" and is about Utah disc jockeys from the 1950s through 1970s.
I've had quite a few church callings - usually as a teacher in Sunday School, Elders Quorum, or High Priests. I've been a Ward Mission Leader, Young Men's President, served in Quorum and Group presidencies, and even been Choir Director. Gary Williams, a Mission President in Taichung, lives in my ward. |
