Dear Presidents, Alumni, and Friends of the Tennessee Knoxville Mission,
I apologize for the intrusion but felt this information was of importance. I turned off the Guestbook feature today for the TKM web site. Many of the mission.net web sites have experienced spamming attacks on their web sites through the Guestbook feature. We are unaware of any lost data or compromised names and addresses. However, to preclude any incident or problem, many of the webmasters, myself included, have shut off this feature to protect the integrity of the site.
Just so you know, the owners of mission.net have allowed Google and other search engine companies to index the many mission sites over the past month. The reason was to allow alumni that may have been searching for former companions, friends, or mission information, the opportunity to locate the mission site and become a member. As a result of allowing this indexing, many hundreds of former alumni have now found their way to mission.net and their respective mission alumni web site.
Unfortunately, many disreputable individuals are also taking advantage of the exposure of mission.net to the web and are loading guest books with Spam of a questionable, and in some cases, immoral nature. We are unaware of any Spam having hostile code that would circumvent the many security features of mission.net. Since the majority of Spam has been posted to the Guestbook, that seemed the first step in increasing our security posture.
Rest assured that no data from the Tennessee Knoxville Alumni web site has been compromised. Our Guestbook was not attacked and I have not detected any attempts to circumvent the administrative settings of the site.
Thank you for your continued use and support of the Tennessee Knoxville Alumni web site.
Sincerely,
John Stout
Alumni
TKM Webmaster

LDS QUOTE: |
"You are a great army of returned missionaries. Go forward with new zeal and determination, and through your example shine the light of the gospel in this troubled world. This is the Lord’s work in which we are engaged. God lives. Jesus is the Christ. We belong to His Church. This is my witness to you in the name of Jesus Christ, amen."
