Our little brother in Sumy needs help | 23 Aug 2011 |
Check out this opportunity for us to give back to a loving and faithful family in Sumy that is in great need. Thank you to Alex Eagar for sharing with us this story. Check out the website he has set up and lets all help: http://pledgie.com/campaigns/15893 Donate To: "Surgery and Recovery of Vlad Onopchenko" At the beginning of August, Vlad Onopchenko had two mini-strokes and a hypertensive emergency. My name is Alex Eagar, and I have personally known the Onopchenko family very well for over 8 years, since before Vlad turned 8. Vlad has had circulatory problems his whole life. Growing up, Vlad was big and strong for his age and very easily excitable. This was and is a problem because when he gets worked up, his circulatory problems get worse. I first became friends with Vlad at church, where I would try keep him calm and out of trouble. He was always quite the handful, but we had fun whispering and making paper airplanes and whatnot. A few years ago I tried to help Vlad get surgery to implant stents, which would have improved his circulation, but I wasn’t able to make it happen on my own. Now Vlad is in more urgent need of corrective surgery, but this time I have better access to a network of supportive friends and this website, which helps me feel comfortable asking for donations, by making the whole process more transparent. I completely trust the Onopchenko family, but because I am dealing with other people’s donations, I will personally verify that your donations go only toward paying for Vlad’s operation and improving his health. I will keep you updated with information about Vlad’s health and with a transparent accounting of your donations. The surgery itself is about $6,300 and the family is already supposed to have it available, but Monday 8/22/2011, his parents are scheduled to talk with the doctor by phone. As soon as I have more information, I will post it. I set the goal higher than the cost of the operation, to account for recuperation costs and for money transfer fees. Other than starting this pledge campaign, I have talked quite a bit with Vlad’s mother over Skype and I have created a Facebook group to keep close friends and family informed. I will keep the public informed through this page. Thank you for your donations and please let me know if you have any questions. |
