Demise of the District 10 May 2004
Hey, some of you may have already heard this. I got this email from J. Simmons Armstrong last week and thought I would pass it on.

"Hi Everyone,

In case you haven't already heard, the District is no more, having been dissolved last Sunday, 2 May. The Capitol Hill and Anacostia Branches went to the Suitland Stake; and the remaining five branches, i.e., Mt. Pleasant I, Mt. Pleasant II, Brightwood, D.C. and Chevy Chase, are now part of the "mother" stake as some would like to call it, i.e., the Washington Stake, or as Pres. Graff said it should be more appropriately called, the Kensington, Maryland Stake. I am sure that it will be a cold day "down under" when that happens as historically many members of the Washington Stake have acted as though they hold a copyright on the name.

The structure of the individual branches will not be affected by this change, but all of us who held District-level callings are now "unemployed". It will be real culture shock to be back in the D.C. Branch again after having experienced the "inner city" environment for so long.

I hope that all is well.

As ever,

J.S. Armstrong"
