Comments: I had a great experience on my mission starting at the LTM. My first area was in Washington DC itself where we didn't have a car or bicycle as they would have been stolen. We were the first missionaries back in there as the previous elders were yanked after a bullet went through their windshield. Had some faith promoting experiences of the Lord's protection capabilities, like the time Elder Schultz and I were surrounded by more than 1 hundred Black Panthers we were inspired to speak only spanish which caused them to leave us alone. I later served with Elder Lanning and we were blessed to see the ground breaking for the Washington DC Temple. Then off to New Jersey where I served with Elder Dean and Elder Bridges. I have very fond memories of working with the spanish speaking people and being able to witness their entering into the waters of Baptism. Then out of the blue I got a call from President Drury who was asked by the Brethren to send six spanish speaking missionaries to the Florida South Mission where we primarily worked with the Cuban people. What a wonderful opportunity to serve the Lord and grow in the gospel of Jesus Christ. What a great foundation for the rest of my life. |
