She was called from Hawaii & went to Japan with Sis Peggy Sue Katsuda Ngo.
Her husband owned a weekly Newspaper which was sold 5-6 years ago (2000). I served shortly under Pres. Robertson from late 1955 and most of the rest of my mission under Pres. Andrus thru' 1957. My companions were in chronological order as follows: Left for Japan from my native land of Hawaii with Sister Peggy Katsuda. The companions who followed were Tomiko Imai, Alma Hashimoto, Esther Sato, Joy Olson, Teruko Akamine, Sister Moore, and Junko Idehara.

I taught elementary school for 24 yrs. was selected "Teacher of the Yr. for my school, in the multiple years yearbook of "Who's Who Among Teachers in America" among most notable recognition during my tenure.

My two sons are Dr. Val Umphress , PhD (a clinical psychologist in Hawaii) and Jason Umphress, MD (a gastroenterologist) in Davis, Ca.
My husband Bob and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary in Honolulu last summer wiith 120 extended family and very special friends.
With sweet aloha, irene
