Comments:
Elder Spotten from Santaquin came to Sannomiya after one of the Elders was transferred. He seemed to speak Japanese quite well.
In July of 1962 Elder Gary Petersen was allowed to go home for medical reasons and a missionary from Pleasant Grove Utah Elder Gordon Spotton became the new branch president. I think in August of that year Elder Spotten and his companion began to teach a Yamagata realtor. I cannot remember his name, but during the time of his discussions he began to show a property to Elder Spotten which was an old hospital that was abandoned. Elder Spotten contacted the Church Headquarters and for some reason the Church went into negotiation to purchase this property. We were able to baptize the realtor, but after the purchase of this property he went inactive. Before we moved into this property Elder Ensign was transferred to Kofu. Today there stands a beautiful chapel for the Yamagata ward.

"Obedience is the price, faith is the power, love is the motive, the Spirit is the key, and Christ is the reason." The motto of the Japan Fukuoka Mission can be applied not only to missionary work, but to everyday life. -BYU President Bateman
