Graduated from BYU (BA, Political Science, 1967) and Harvard Law School (JD, 1970). Retired as senior partner at the global law firm of Latham & Watkins (specialized in trademark and copyright litigation). Wrote and published a biography of Tora Thurston (Tore Torstensen), my great-great-grandfather, who immigrated from Norway in 1839, joined the Church in Illinois, and helped colonize several Utah towns. Recently co-authored, with my wife, a book titled "Breathe Life into Your Life Stoy: How to Write a Story People Will Want to Read." I was a legal consultant to the Joseph Smith Papers Project and authored an article in BYU Studies titled "The Boggs Assasination and Missouri's Attempted Extradition: Joseph Smith's Most Famous Case." I was part of a team teaching a course on Joseph Smith and the Law at BYU Law School. Currently (2013) I'm chair of the board of directors of Dialogue Foundation, publisher of "Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought." I'm working on a memoir of my years as a Norwegian missionary.
