Graduated from BYU in Design. After my undergraduate education I began working in Computer Animation and Visual Effects in Los Angeles. I married Jennifer Helvey in 1997. For the first few years of marriage Jennifer continued her work at the Getty Museum as Assistant Curator of Paintings. We now have 3 boys (born 2001, 2004, and 2009) and are living in Ithaca, New York, where I am attending Cornell University. (Update 01/2011: I am at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, for the rest of this academic year.)
Between then and now, I was involved in a number of projects overseas. Jennifer and the boys really enjoyed our years in New Zealand and Australia. The boys have become used to life on the move in recent years. Feeling it is entirely natural to hop between The States and New Zealand on a yearly basis, Lukas, my oldest occasionally inquires of me when we will return.
I have enjoyed my work over the past decade in digital creature effects for feature film. I am especially proud of my contributions to the characters "Gollum" in Lord of the Rings and "King Kong" in King Kong. My area of focus in industry was shading, lighting, and rendering. My graduate work at Cornell and Yale is focused on directional light scattering in bird feathers.
