Comments: It's amazing it's now been 20 years since I returned home from Norway in June '93. The time has flown by, but I often reflect on what a blessing and source of strength serving in Norway has been. I also very much recognize the hand of the Lord throughout my life.
After the mission, I studied at BYU for a couple of years and then worked on Wall Street at Goldman Sachs for a couple more. It was the heyday back then and I had a very intense but amazing experience. I worked closely with Steve Quinn a Mormon partner and got to work with Fortune 500 CEOs. Steve and President Halvorsen wrote two of my recommendations to get into Harvard Business School. I got accepted and studied under HBS Dean Kim Clark, Dr. Clayton Christensen & Dr Wheelwright all accomplished Mormon academics. Upon graduation, I helped launch vSpring Capital (a $300+ million Utah-based venture capital fund). After 5 years of investing in mostly software and internet companies at vSpring, I spun-out and created Monarch Ventures. I've been having a blast ever since launching and investing in a variety of businesses. I've hired, mentored and invested in several former Norske Misjon during my career. I was lucky enough to get a summer internship with McKinsey & Company in Oslo during business school (I lived in Bygdøy and worked in Aker Brygge). It was a killer experience and reinforced how much I love Norway and Norwegians. I also have been back a couple of times on vacation. I definitely plan to go back and take my entire family to show them what an unforgettable and special place Norway is.
I met my wife Sarah on Study Abroad at The Jerusalem Center just before I graduated in 1995. We got married in 1999...it's been 13 years now. We have 3 sweet kids (Bergen-4, Anders-2 & Emerson-4 months). We live in Sandy, Utah and love living close to the mountains and to both of our families. |
