James Raymond Purdy
Ogden – James (Jim) Purdy died June 29, 2009 and was discovered November 14, 2009 after the first major snowfall of the season.
Jim was born June 27, 1949 in Ogden, Utah to David James and Phyllis Naegle Purdy. He served two tours of duty during the Vietnam War in the Army and later in the United States Marine Corp. Jim also served an LDS Mission to Norway from 1973-75. He met his wife, Yoon Mi Hamrick, in 1982 and they married July 27, 1987.
Jim was an excellent hiker and could name most any plant, insect, or animal encountered on hikes and camping trips. As a man of refined tastes, Jim was a connoisseur of geography, foreign language, world history, and classical music. He was also a remarkable pianist and had played the piano for practically all of his life. He was perhaps best known for being a perfectionist, an avid reader, and a generous man. Jim was friendly to those he knew and loved to give gifts, free haircuts, or a helping hand.
James Purdy is survived and missed dearly by his wife, Yoon Mi; his 19 year-old daughter, Karlene; his 14 year-old son, Samuel; his parents, David and Phyllis; his siblings, Susan, Steve, Ted, and Maren; a niece, two nephews, and his brother-in-law, Doug McFarland.
