Stories: Hybel in Stavanger
Displaying 1 - 1 of 1 -- Add Story
I got transferred to Stavanger in January 1967. My companion, Elder Thompson, met me at the train station. I had come from Drammen, alone. The hybel was above and behind a laundry/dry cleaners on Lagardsveien No. 17. Up a rickety set of stairs to what looked like the door to a meat locker! A 15" long handle unlocked the 6" thick door. The room was about 12x15 with a crude (not airtight) window facing the street. The cubicle had two twin beds, a desk, a table with a hot plate and one of those famous 1/2 sinks. We lived out of our luggage - no closets or dressers. The toilet was down the hall, shared with a couple of longshoremen. When the elders from Sandnes came by, the 4 of us could hardly fit in the room. Ah, such memories. |
