Presidents: Lowell D. Wood (1979 - 1982) | Served: 1979 - 1981 | Areas Served: South Africa: Stilfontein, Durban, Secunda, Springs, Pretoria, East London, Port Elizabeth | Companions: Michael J. Clark | Gary Gray | David W Horne | Kimball C. Lynn | Paul Simon Matthews | Ken Purnell | Your Occupation: Area Director--Seminaries & Institutes of Religion | Spouse: Sherry Lynn White | Comments: Sherry and I have 8 kids...all boys except for the 7 girls, from 11-26. We have 3 that are married. We just became grandparents on Aug. 12th and have another grandchild on the way the end of October. 3 of our kids have served missions (Philippines, Ecuador and Nebraska) and we have 5 living with us right now. I went to the U of U after my mission to become an architect and ended up getting hired by CES as a seminary teacher. I taught for 9 years at Taylorsville Seminary and then was transferred home to California where I taught institute for 10 years and have been in administration the last 6 (not as fun, but still a great job). Almost went back to South Africa this year with our former bishop who is from South Africa (George Long) but we didn't have the $$$ after doing 3 weddings in 9 months time!! Currently serving as bishop of our ward and loving it. Life is wonderful.
Note: The companions I have selected above as having served with are almost all (except for Ken Purnell) from my MTC group. Here is the list of all those I served with... Herculaas Colin Dupreez (Stilfontein), Mark Christensen (Durban), Tom Scribner (Durban), Donald Jacobsen (Durban), Curtis Ward (Durban), John W. A. Donaldson (Secunda) Lars Henretta (Springs), Gordon Hofheins (Springs), R. Antone Robinson (Pretoria), Richard Crosland (Pretoria), Ken Purnell (Port Elizabeth). |
