Open House Information

ATTENDANCE at OPEN HOUSE. Even though the Open House was held between Christmas and New Years when so many people are out of town, over 14,100 people attended in 2-1/2 days. Wednesday evening at 7:30 PM there was still not an empty parking space in the entire parking lot. There were cars lined up waiting for a parking space from the North parking lot driveway down Brayton Drive all the way to DeArmoun Road then west across the overpass over the New Seward Highway a distance of about 0.6 mile! Initial Open House Schedule

Open House Schedule. The open house is scheduled for December 28th through December 31st. The 28th is not for the public, but is set aside for community leaders, media, and invited guests. The schedule for the public is:

Day and Date Time
Tuesday, December 29th 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM
Wednesday, December 30th 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM
Thursday, December 31st 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM

Invitations. A limited number of engraved invitations are available to local people to use to invite guests to attend the open house. They may be obtained from your bishop.

Getting to the Temple. Drive south from downtown Anchorage on the New Seward Highway. Take the DeArmoun Road exit. Turn left (east) and cross over the New Seward Highway on the overpass. Take the first left (north) as if you were getting back on the New Seward Highway. However, instead of getting on the freeway stay to the left and get on the northbound, one-way, frontage road Brayton Drive. The Brayton Chapel and the Anchorage Alaska Temple are located on the right after about one half mile.

Parking. People should car pool. There will be very limited parking. Enter the church parking lot at the second entrance (north of the chapel). Traffic coordinators will be there to assist you. Please follow their instructions for efficient parking and exiting. There will be no shuttle service. Please do not plan on bringing motor homes or similar size vehicles to the parking lot. There is no parking on Brayton Drive.

Attending the Open House. Ushers will direct you to the Brayton Chapel from the north side. A short video on temples will be shown in the chapel. From there you will go to the walkway entrance from the chapel to the temple. Plan on 30 to 40 minutes for the open house.

Electronic Equipment. All electronic equipment must be left behind. There will be no place to check these items at the open house or dedication. This means no cameras, recorders, beepers, cell phones, etc.

Backpacks and Packages. No backpacks or packages will be allowed in the temple.

Child Care. There will be no child care facilities at the open house. Do not bring strollers.

Coats. The covered walkway between the chapel and the temple will be heated. Coats therefore may be left in the cloak areas in the Brayton Chapel.

Restrooms. Restroom facilities will not be available in the temple. Use the Brayton Chapel restrooms.

Special Needs. Ushers will be available to assist those with special needs. Wheel chairs will be available in the temple. For the hearing impaired--contact Bro. Gary Child at (907) 337-4989 if signing is needed. Interpreters will also be present.
