I've be back to Norway several time and visited Gjeitoya (Goat Island), just east of Skien, where my great-grandfather grew up. Pam and I will be going again in two week (June 11, 2010). Hope to attend a church service in Drammen. Who knows, we may even see some of the old Smithvieners we invited to church back in 73.
Just a quick run-down of the last 35 years:
1. Attended Butte College, U of U, and CSU, Chico.
2. Married and had 4 children, Joseph, Robert, Kari and Richard.
3. Bought the family moving and storage business in 1981 Sorenson Moving and Storage agent for United Van Lines.
4. Served in the church, elder quorum presidency, stake young mens presdency, taught seminary, Bishopric and nursery leader.
5. Served on boards: Wild Horse Sanctuary (horse rescue) and The Chico Rooks (semi-professional soccer team)
6. Coach/Player, Chico United Soccer Club (40+ age group)
7. Planted 13 acre vineyard in 1998 and now building winery.
8. Left the Church, Divorced, remarried (86 to 90)
It's strange to comment on leaving the church on this website but having served a mission in Norway, it was, and still is, a very special and important part of my life. I know that other like me feel the same way and hope that someday there will be a reunion in a neutral setting where all will feel comfortable attending. |
