Layton B. Jones, the first president of the Philippines Davao Mission is alive and well. He will soon celebrate his 95th birthday. He is living in Gig Harbor, Washington (in the Seattle metro area). On October 23, 2007, two of the original missionaries that opened the Davao mission, Kurt Wiest (me) and Mike Fitzgerald, visited President Jones. We had a delightful time recalling the formative days of the Davao Mission. President Jones has a terrific memory of events and places. He has stayed in touch with some of his missionaries and enjoys updates of those that served under him. If anyone wishes to contact Pres. Jones, please e-mail me and I will relay his address.

I just wanted to say howdy to Gene and Grant - welcome to the PDM Alumni website. There are a few of us old folk on the site. Grant, I still get a chuckle everytime I read some of your old reimbursement requests - what great memories. My two are back from their missions - Our eldest, Kisa, served in Sibeira, and our son, Chris, returned about 6 months ago from Madrid. Our youngest, Tawny, is almost 20, and is preparing for her mission. Hopefully at least one of our kids will go to the Philippines - they have all been there many times, so wouldn't ya think?? Anyway, to all, thanks for making this website what it is. / Mark

Hi Mark...I have just enlist myself this Aug to your alumni list. What you have initiated is an incredible way to re-connect old ties and renew friendships.
Hope this website would provide new ways for old pals to engage in new "companionship" projects. Something meaningful to improve the quality of life and uplift the living conditions of the saints (not just in Davao but anywhere in Phils).
Thanks for your great contribution!
...Mel
